Eastbourne
Eastbourne is home to Beachy Head and the Seven Sisters and the beautiful South Downs which stretch across East Sussex and West Sussex, where many a good walk has been enjoyed, which are now part of a protected National Park. Don’t forget a trip to the Birling Gap, where the cliffs enclave the sea and where lunch and a few drinks will refresh you after a days walking or sunbathing.
The pier and the bandstand where they have afternoon concerts and sometimes dancing, along with, more recently, tribute concerts from the Beatles, David Bowie, the Rolling Stones to Abba, to name a few, are also close by; as is the Wish Tower which has a super view of the coastline from its restaurant where you can have a drink and a bite to eat. The Dotto train at Stagecoach in Eastbourne runs the full length of the seafront with bus stops all along the promenade. A nice way to get to other parts of the beach the trains are named after famous lovers, Romeo, Juliet and Cupid. Just one mile along the coast is the new Sovereign Harbour village which has nice shops and restaurants and is well worth a visit if only to look at the yachts. Eastbourne also has four theatres - the Congress, the Devonshire Park, the Royal Hippodrome and the Winter Garden which attract many acts and visitors throughout the year.
Pevensey Castle: Where William the Conqueror and the Norman army first landed in 1066. Pevensey Castle is a great family day out while on your visit to Eastbourne, you can enjoy the rich history of the castle and fun things to do and see for adults and children. With a history stretching back over 16 centuries, beginning in the 4th century as one of the last and strongest of the Roman 'Saxon Shore' forts, two-thirds of whose towered walls still stand. Also there are many nice pubs in Pevensey where a spot of lunch can be enjoyed, the smugglers is great for the children as it has and adventure park in the garden.
If you would like to do a little shopping while in Eastbourne - Terminus road and the Arndale shopping centre offers a wide range of shops.
For the children: Eastbourne has a wide variety of things to do for the children, the beach and the pier being the obvious, also Fort Fun, and Treasure Island where the little ones can have a great time on the rides and a variety of other fun things. Drusillas is a great place to take the children, which is located in Alfriston a short drive from Eastbourne. Also Princes Park and the miniature steam railway along with a trip up to the Famous Beachy Head are just a handful of the fun things to do for the children in Eastbourne.
The Seven Sisters Sheep Centre is situated just past Beachy head, and boasts one of the largest collections of sheep in the world with many different breeds of sheep. On your visit you can help feed the lambs, meet the animals and take a ride on the tractor trailer ride. You can also get a lovely cream tea in the café.
Events: There are many events that come to Eastbourne throughout the holiday season and beyond including Airbourne, a fantastic air show. The International Tennis at the Devonshire Tennis Centre, Magnificent Motors, the Eastbourne Beer Festival to name but a few. For more events.
Night life: There are plenty of pubs and bars in Eastbourne: The Buccaneer on Compton Street is always nice for pre-theatre drinks or for a few afterwards. And also The Marine pub in our road is a great place to eat and have a quiet drink. The town has many bars to choose from, to suit different requirements. Cocos is a nice night club to spend the latter hours of the evening and into the early morning with good DJs and good dancing.
